Preparations.

Normally you start with your first bee colony in spring. The author, however, was impatient and probably pushed a little, so that his apiarist godfather thought he could probably start beekeeping in late summer.

The beekeepers' godfather created an offshoot of his colonies late in the day, pimped it up for a few weeks, and waited until the queen returned from her wedding flight to start laying eggs.

At the end of July the author acquired his first hive, that is the name of the wooden box in which the bees live. The parts of the hive are made in the therapeutic workshops of Karlshöhe Ludwigsburg.

In each hive there are 10 wooden frames in which a steel wire is clamped. Thin foundation sheets made of beeswax with an embossed honeycomb structure are attached to the wires, which serve the bees as a building template for their honeycomb work. The bees do not necessarily need this construction aid, but it ensures that the honeycombs are quickly extended and are connected to the frame in a sufficiently stable manner, which prevents the honeycomb from breaking during honey extraction.

He brought two prepared frames to his beekeeper godfather so that he could accommodate the bees there.
