Why is the pollination performance of honey bees so important? Why are they attracted to the city? What can you contribute to the preservation of our nature?

Ecological Importance

We humans owe not only the tasty honey to bees, but also the preservation of the diverse natural landscapes. For on their extensive flights of nectar collection they contribute to the pollination of numerous wild and cultivated plants. The cultivation of fruit and field crops without crop failures and quality losses is thus made possible. And some of the wild plants would slowly die out without bees.

It is estimated that three quarters of all agricultural and wild plants are pollinated by bees.

The bee is of great ecological importance due to its pollination performance and is considered the third most important farm animal. Beekeeping is therefore a guarantee for the survival of many plants.

Green Agricultural Deserts

In many places in the countryside today, there is an agro-industrial wasteland: hedges, small trees and shrubs, woodland and stream margins were systematically cleared as part of the land consolidation process, and vast, monotonous agricultural areas were created - good for large-scale monocultures, bad for bees. Because monocultures are harvested within a few days.

This suddenly creates green deserts in which bees find neither pollen nor nectar. In addition, farmers cultivate fewer catch crops and often mow their meadows before flowering.

In some regions bees find only flower-free areas as early as July and starve to death in the middle of summer.

Bees in the City Are Doing Better

The honeybee is increasingly moving from the country to the city.

The "city bee" has access to an immense food supply in the city throughout the entire season.  Because the range of flowers here is more varied and the use of pesticides is low, city bees are healthier than their sisters in the countryside.

City Beekeeping Preserves Nature

Keeping bees in the city has become an international movement. Whether in New York, Paris or Berlin - city beekeeping is booming everywhere in the metropolises.

Your purchase of Heilbronner Gartenhonig promotes beekeeping and its contribution to the preservation of our nature.

For this we say thank you!
