Sniffed Honey.

Sniffed Honey.

In May 2013 the author of this blog talked to his cousin about her bees at a family celebration. She and her husband have been running a beekeeping as a hobby for several years. This conversation aroused the author's interest. He bought a textbook on beekeeping and got a first impression of the activities of a beekeeper. He also read about the possibility of keeping bees in the city.

He was so fascinated by what he read and told that he decided to take a closer look.

In mid-June the author visited his cousin. He was lucky, because on this day he was able to accompany her husband in some steps of his beekeeping activities: They inspected his colonies, hung up combs and fed the young colonies with sugar syrup. In the evening, they extracted some honey from the combs and filled it into jars.

An impressive experience for the author: the smell that emanates from an open beehive and the taste of freshly extracted honey are indescribable. What impressed the author most, however, was that he was able to work on the open beehive without protection, pull out combs full of bees and even touch the small animals without being stung.

The little son of the family naturally jumped around barefoot and in an open body with the bees in the garden. The author did not expect that a colony of bees would be so peaceful.
