Honey bees to artificial swarms.

Honey bees to artificial swarms.

For the first time, the garden beekeeper has created artificial swarms, with young bees from several honey chambers of the productive colonies, and with an unmated queen from the breeder.

Now the colonies are in their new artificial swarm boxes for three days in the cellar. During this cellar arrest, this cluster of bees becomes a colony. Only then will they be allowed to move into their final hives at a new location, and the queen will make her mating flight.

This coming Saturday will be the day of the honey extraction. After clearing the honey chambers during the honey harvest, all the bees crowd into the only remaining brood chamber. Making artificial swarms from honey bees is an elegant way to make good use of this temporary surplus of bees.
