The First Honey Room.
On 05.04. the first extensive inspection of the bee colony took place. Every comb was examined.
The photos show three honeycombs in different stages: a dark brood comb with covered worker cells, a brighter developed feed comb from which fresh nectar drips, and a young foundation whose cell
walls are just being developed.
A third frame with 10 empty combs was added to the beehive - the first honey room. This is separated from the two brood rooms by a barrier. Thus only the workers but not the queen enter the honey
room and the honey room remains brood-free.
As the sky was overcast during the inspection and a cool wind blew, most of the flying bees were in the box, and they were correspondingly nervously underemployed there. This circumstance
unfortunately brought the garden beekeeper several stings.
One of these stings was in the throat, which caused swelling and a goiter (Wikipedia's "palpable, visible or measurable enlargement of the thyroid gland [...] and a shape that can be seen by fine
tissue or by the naked eye"), the vertical resonance frequency of which was in line with the normal cadence, causing violent vibrations and resulting in laughter in the family.
The garden beekeeper nevertheless calmly endured the ridicule, but the inclined reader may be spared further explanations or even illustrations of this pitiable situation.
