Beekeeping Activities in March.
On 11.03. the barrier foil between the lower and the upper brood chamber was removed, thus giving the bees space. On top there are 10 wooden frames in which thin foundations made of beeswax are fixed. On the foundtions a honeycomb structure is embossed, which serves the bees as building pattern for worker cells.
On 27.03. an empty frame was placed in the lower brood chamber so that the bees could expand it with drone cells. Drone cells are larger than worker cells and are created in natural construction
due to lack of a template. 3 days later the drone frame was already extended to 2/3 and many of the cells were pinned with eggs, a sure proof that the queen is alive.
In these days the weather is very nice and the bees find a lot of food. The smell of fresh honey comes out of the box. The cherry is in full bloom, the weight of the bee box increases by about 1
kg per day, which is probably due to nectar input.
Now the time of weekly inspection of all combs begins, in order to recognize and prevent swarming, to expand at the right time and to form offshoots.
